The Organic Yields Up (OYUP) project, coordinated by FiBL Europe, is working to identify strategies that can increase yields in organic farming without compromising environmental and social sustainability.
A key achievement so far has been the creation of a comprehensive open-access database with more than 60,000 observations collected over the past two decades across Europe. The database brings together data from long- and short-term trials, farm surveys and scientific literature, harmonised to allow meaningful comparison. It offers valuable insights into crops such as wheat, legumes and potatoes, and includes detailed information on fertilisation strategies, management practices and local conditions.
This resource will enable researchers, technicians and farmers to analyse and validate practices that help close the productivity gap between organic and conventional systems.
Beyond data collection, OYUP also aims to strengthen regional networks of farmers, researchers and institutions through a living lab approach – fostering collaboration to test and develop innovative solutions directly on farms.
The project’s findings will support policy recommendations and contribute to shaping future research and innovation strategies for a more resilient and competitive organic sector in Europe.
